Kalom Hikone (彦根カロム, Hikone Karom) is a character in Barjona Bombers. He was part of the initial cast of the series, a group of delinquents attending Barjona Marine High School.

Appearance

Kalom is a small teenage boy with scruffy blond hair and unusually thick eyebrows (his most prominent feature). He wears a long teal vest and slacks as his Barjona uniform, with a white shirt and a navy neckbow.

Profile

Kalom is a polite and shy youth, who's also a bit old-fashioned and often a victim of bullying due to his gullible nature. It is uncertain how he wound up in such a bad school like Barjona. He doesn't like to speak about his family, as they are incredibly frugal, though he is actually quite happy with his life. He is nicknamed "Kalo" (or "Karo").

His dialect is a rather quiet Omi drawl. His favorite foods are bean jam and sushi, and he is a first year in Marine Technology.

Relationships

Tsukomi Hoke (Tsuko)

Though Kalom's school life started out rough, he was rescued from bullying by Tsuko and the two became good friends.

Nishinomaru Hunai (Nomaru)

Nomaru acts as a "baby-sitter" to Kalom, as well as Tsuko, in order to keep them out of danger.

Yamato Nara

After Yamato enters Barjona High, he becomes Kalom's roommate. Due to Kalom's frugality though, their dorm life is somewhat unusual.

Noto Kanazawa

Kalom crosses paths with Noto after his change in personality and winds up as one of his victims in his revenge, getting stripped of his clothing and bound to a chair. His torture is cut short when a stray ball thrown by Nacchan hits Noto in the head, knocking him out.

Trivia

  • While his surname references a city in Shiga prefecture, his given name derives from the game called Carrom that is often played there. Though this indicates that the proper spelling should be "Carrom", Himaruya officially romanizes it as "Kalom" (and Karom in earlier profiles).
  • Amusingly, the United Kingdom character in Himaruya's later series Hetalia: Axis Powers bears a strong resemblance to Kalom. However, while UK resembles Kalom in physical appearance, his personality is more like Homare's.
